Karen Jones and Deuce
I am thrilled to apply my skills and experience in school counseling to a therapeutic environment to support children and adolescents and their families, and adults. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Baylor University and a Master of Education degree in Educational Psychology/Counseling from the University of Texas at Austin.

After working in colleges as an academic, personal, and career counselor and obtaining my Licensure as a Professional Counselor, I became an elementary teacher for several years. While I enjoyed teaching, I was most passionate about partnering with families and building strong working relationships with them and their children to help children thrive socially, emotionally, and academically in school. Serving on multiple MTSS (RtI) committees, as 504 Coordinator and Testing Coordinator, and obtaining Special Education certification helped me understand the importance of collaborating with various departments and being proactive regarding interventions and supports.

I became a school counselor and a district-level counselor and have served at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in rural and large suburban school districts. These experiences help me to understand childrens' developmental levels, tasks, and protective factors, and to identify potential barriers to success.

Deuce, my 5 year-old golden retriever, and I are in the Texas State Animal-Assisted Counseling Academy and are trained and certified to provide counseling interventions as a team.
