Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I am choosing a therapist that is a good fit for me or my child?

By asking questions during an initial phone consultation, such as about therapeutic techniques used, areas of specialization, philosophy of professional counseling/therapy, etc., you can help determine if there will be a potentially strong working relationship.

Who do you typically work with?

My clients typically range from children (starting age 6) through adults.  Some families have contacted me, because traditional therapy may not have been as impactful as the hands-on, experiential nature of AAC for their children.

For which types of issues do you provide support?

I see clients that may be working on nervous system/emotional regulation, navigating being neurodiverse in a world that isn't always affirming, symptoms of anxiety, social skills/relationships, self advocating and setting appropriate boundaries, self-esteem, and life changes/transitions and loss.

How would you describe your approach?

I provide a safe, calming, and nonjudgemental environment.  I celebrate each client's unique gifts and strengths.  I believe in maximizing time during sessions with an emphasis on practical application for the client.  I have a solution-focused, strengths-based approach and use cognitive behavioral techniques to challenge and replace automatic negative thought patterns, of which clients may not be aware.

How often will we meet?

Consistency is vital for the most growth possible. Typically, clients start with weekly sessions.  As progress is made, we may decrease the frequency.

How long does therapy last?

Some clients feel equipped to stop after just a few sessions, whereas others benefit from longer-term therapy.  We will collaborate to create a plan that best fits your needs.

Do you partner with clients' schools, doctors, and other providers?

Yes, I believe that a team approach with others who are providing support for you or your child is the most advantageous.  This includes guiding parents on how to advocate and pursue appropriate school supports for their children.  For adult clients, I value insights that other providers can give that can enhance our work together.
